Oh My Venus Ep 14 Recap (and Chief Min’s inner diva)

February 2015. Youngho reminisces in bed, having lost count of how many times he’s woken from a dream of Jooeun to a hospital ceiling. Days pass as he knits (!! how hot is that?) a pink scarf, and thinks back to doing the same time as a child to pass time in the hospital. Chief Min stops by and little Youngho says that the scarf is for his mother, who Min informs him, in on her way to see him. Unfortunately, that very night she dies in a car accident and Youngho hears Chief Min informing his father of it (a scene we saw in an earlier episode). His younger and older self knit side by side, lost in grief.

The King’s Face Ep 1 Review (and where is Shin Sung Rok?)

With breathtaking visuals and a dramatic, resonant score, the King’s Face appears to be a winner alright. That is, if you exclude the first five minutes. No seriously, anyone considering watching this drama should seriously keep the first five minutes. Why on earth the producers though that beginning with a spoiler was a good idea is beyond me. Suffice it to say that you’ll actually find the drama more enjoyable if you skip ahead, so I’ll start from what should have been the beginning had some scriptwriter not gotten overly ambitious. (And speaking of overly ambitious there’s a Pirates of the Caribbean rip-off soundtrack at 33:30 into the drama, it’s honestly such a blatant rip, it’s pretty hard to un-hear. Come on! Surely you guys can do better than that!)vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h54m40s42 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h54m20s101 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h54m46s106 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h54m02s177 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h55m00s249 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h55m06s47 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h55m12s106 vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h55m25s240

We begin with young Prince Sejong being told that his is a face that bodes unrest for the kingdom, should he ascend the throne. vlcsnap-2014-12-03-15h59m54s108vlcsnap-2014-12-03-16h01m04s51 The prince is not too happy to hear it and we see a cruel smirk cross his face as he stares at the face reader…who pulls a sword on him? Okay that was fast. The scene abruptly changes as present-day Sejong wakes up from his dream/flashback/whatever it was with a start. He is brought to one of the many (we are told) areas of suffering within Joseon. People aren’t too happy with the king and have no issue with showing it as they consider themselves as good as dead anyway. Sejong puts on a warmhearted face and make promises of opening the granaries and the royal cellars, but arranges for those who insulted him to be killed once out of earshot.

Liar Game Ep 12: Just the beginning

What a ride. What a magnificent ride. Just when I thought it impossible, Liar Game has outdone itself once more. I’m going to miss this show like crazy…during the interim months until the second season that is! (And yes, I think we can definitely say that there is going to be one).

Get ready for a super long analysis. There was so much sheer perfection in this episode, I’m surprised I managed to get anything written at at all! It wasn’t entirely about our three leads this season finale, as the bonds that sprung up during the course of the show proved sturdy. Our secondary characters rose magnificently to the occasion, proving NDJ’s philosophy with gusto. Jamie remains a scene-stealer, and I hope to see more of her next season as well!

(Did someone just mention me?)

We start off with NDJ being cornered in the bathroom by Director Jang, who spews his nonsense about KDY and HWJ working together. Seriously dude, do ratings and company capital matter so much to you that you’re willing to stoop this low? And I take back everything I ever said about NDJ’s sudden distrust of HWJ. Man, this show has a way with editing previews that puts me on edge. Continue reading

Liar Game Episode 11: A matter of trust

This show is honestly going to be the death of me. Even as I (mentally) jump in joy at my wild theory on DJ having been at the orphanage being right, my brain crumbled when NDJ pointed that gun at HWJ.

But let’s backtrack for an instance to the very start of this episode. We see that NDJ actually did see HWJ ready to enter the café before the news broke, which I thought would ease things a little, seeing as the man was right in front of her eyes and she could demand her answers. And she does, being the rational person she is.

Liar Game’s ep 11 preview and the return of THAT PAINTING

The preview for Liar Game’s 11th episode has been out since Friday, though I unfortunately didn’t have the ability to expunge by fears, and excitement about it. First off, THE PAINTING IS BACK!!!! Those who’ve been following the show will undoubtedly remember that moment when HWJ raced off to save his girl from KDY’s wiles (and $15000 bottles of wine) and focused on a painting in the corner for a few seconds. Well the preview shows HWJ entering a dark and musty room of sort, after which the scene cuts to a painting falling from his grasp, as he clutches his head in agony saying “This is…”.

I’ve quite a few wild theories on what it could mean and I’m just going to let them loose. This is Liar Game after all, you can’t trust anyone.

My theory is that the painting is one of the memory triggers they use in hypnosis and the like. Then, DY had a dual purpose in inviting DJ to his place: to get those pictures of her and secondly to get HWJ racing off (to protect his girl) to his place where he’d see the painting. Thus, seeing it again in episode 11 would then serve to bring back HWJ’s repressed memories.

Liar Game’s preview for Ep 9

For some reason, I cannot help dissecting each and every part of this show, which is strange as I’m normally one to leave things at that. Perhaps it’s because there’s just so much packed into each beautiful episode. I also like to think that it’s the best way to pay tribute to great storytelling: to think and talk about it. Regardless of the fact that these people are characters, I like to think of them as people. Heaven knows, I believe that’s what the writer(of the manga and the screenwriter of this drama) would have wanted and what she/he would have thought. I did think that there was a little less NDJ in the past two episodes than I’d have liked ( I do love her as well). But the coming two appear to make up for that.

Thoughts on Episode 7 of Liar Game

I’ll try not to post spoilers in during my ramblings and focus more on the tiny details I noticed per episode and the questions that each invariable brings. First off, I am so in love. Ha Woo Jin continues to be the best male K-drama lead I have seen in years. I squealed so hard at that “I won’t let Da-Jung get hurt” bit and the “In want to see her dream realized” bit. Can I fall even more in love with this man?

vlcsnap-2014-11-11-21h10m32s222 vlcsnap-2014-11-11-21h10m39s30 vlcsnap-2014-11-11-21h13m27s160 vlcsnap-2014-11-11-21h17m32s46

(Rawr)

That being said things are starting to heat up. Kang Do-Young sudden (not so surprising when you think about it) entrance into the game has resulted the stakes being raised for our hero and heroine. More so,now that he actively appears to be pursuing WooJin. I’m super worried that his supposed overreaching when making this second promise (that resulted in Jamie leaving his prty) is but a ploy. Kang Do Young (henceforth KDY) is not the sort to simply make mistakes without there being an ulterior motive and I am honestly scared for Ha WooJin (henceforth HWJ) and Nam DaJung (Henceforth NDJ) as to what this may mean.

(hello fake look of surprise. KDY is such a delicious villian. Please stay that way!) Continue reading
