Cheese in the Trap Ep 9 Review (and good on you, Seol)

A commentor on dramabeans on the previous episode accurately noted that Seol lacked chutzpah (which is such a great word). That is clearly no longer the case. What i find especially pleasant is that it wasn’t that she was timid but decided to say what she’d always been thinking instead of pretending that everything was fine. She took down Minsoo and Sangchul like nothing else, and it was ridiculously satisfying to behold. And she sure dealt Yoo Jung a severe blow. It’s one I think he needed, and one I’m surprised he took. He could easily have fobbed the whole text ordeal off on Inha, but 1) he clearly values Seol too much to do so and 2) he does see a large part of it as his fault. I’ve been seeing Yoo Jung as a mind-reader for so long (seeing as I haven’t read the webtoon) that I forgot he was human. He saw something creepy in Young Gon but ignored it, because in Inho’s words…

Cheese in the Trap Ep 8 Review (and obstacles galore)

What I love most about Cheese in the Trap has to be how much happens despite the main couple spending so much time apart. Other shows normally require both people in the same scene, or working towards a common goal to have forward movement in terms of plot but Seol, Yoo Jung, and Inho are off doing different things, and yet a fascinating new set of struggles opens up.

Cheese in the Trap Ep 7 Review (and is the romance starting to fray?)

Somehow this episode felt like a great deal of set-up, with threads of conflict slowly being introduced to the overall plot. We’ve (very refreshingly) seen Seol and Yoo Jung talk things out several times now, that most dramas take ages to resolve, but there’s a growing note of discomfort that’s arisen in their relationship and it’s not Young Gon or Minsoo or the looming future, or even the obnoxious Inha (who by the looks of it will meet Seol tomorrow), it’s Yoo Jung himself.
(Yoo Jung’s parade sure was rained on)

Cheese in the Trap Ep 6 Review (and Seol’s in loove)

I wish I could be even mildly coherent throughout this review but university has the amazing ability to suck the very life out of you and after hours of nonstop class, I would like to count myself a card-carrying zombie. So apologies for the rambling turns this might take BUT I AM SO INTO THIS SHOW!! What is it with January and crack? Last year brought me KMHM and while Cheese in the Trap has yet to surpass my love for that show, it’s definitely sitting close to it on my Hall of Feels.

Cheese in the Trap Ep 5 Review (and falling for Yoo Jung)

The episode I was waiting for finally came around and cleared up all but one question that’s been haunting the past four episodes (what happened to Inho’s hand?). I’m delighted by the amount of time we spent in Yoo Jung’s head today because it finally allows you get a feel for who he is (without other’s filters getting in the way) and he’s a squishy teddy bear. Okay, maybe not a teddy bear. A lion?

Cheese in the Trap Ep 2 Recap (and Seol’s confusion)

Yoo Jung sits next to Seol and gives her a wave. She waits for death. While Dr. Kang lectures on how they have to make the best of her class seeing as they’re paying ten times the tuition she did. Seol furtively packs her stuff and practically dashes out of class just as Yoo Jung prepares to ask her out for lunch.
