I seriously don’t know how/why I keep getting hits on this page when I’m such a lazy bum and haven’t updated it in so long. What came so easily during the second and third years of my undergrad gets more and more difficult as I keep losing time in my final year. Thank you so much to those who still frequent this corner of the web! And if you haven’t seen Defendant, please do.
It’s sheer utter magnificent brilliance.
Now I could write an ode, like I did with Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim. But odes are based on the premise that words can capture or do some justice to an experience. I can’t describe this. The acting, writing, directing, music (say goodbye to excessive osts, 99.9% of everything’s instrumental and perfect), everything is so bloody brilliant that my jaw spends a lot of time on the floor. Haneul remains silent in front of the mic until the door swings open. Geurin rushes in. She nods encouragingly, prompting him to sing. He starts, his voice going stronger and stronger. Geurin tears up, while Seokho, silently enters and watches Haneul, looking incredibly conflicted and moved.

I was debating on recapping this because recapping a show can take some of the joy out of watching and experiencing a show and fulling immersing yourself in its world. I always find myself more focused on getting the right screencap, and getting irritated when VLC drags than being moved at Shijin and Moyeon’s reunion in DOTS. It’s why I’m not recapping the utterly phenomenal Pied Piper at the moment. However, I love, love, love Ji Sung though so I’ll end up reviewing this show anyway. So I’m weighing on the first episode and I’ll leave all thoughts of recapping for later because my favourite K-actor IS BACK IN FULL FORM!

Longtime followers of my blog will know that I have it bad for Ji Sung. I mean, I enjoy a pretty face (Lee Sangyoon, Ji Changwook etc) but this man is my I-Love-You. And his wife is my K-actress girl crush so spotting any news on these two makes me ridiculously happy. Ji Sung’s been sporadically updating his Instagram this past year after taking some well deserved time off to recuperate from the mind-blowing, jaw-dropping performance he gave in KMHM, as well as to mentally and emotionally recover from a role he has said will remain forever close to his heart. He recently posted two new pictures indicating that his return is nigh. One’s from a photoshoot where he looks as perfect as usual and the other is captioned ‘the enjoyable Entertainer’

And she’s married! Her wedding’s already a hot topic (trending #1 on Naver) because of the sheer volume of celebrities that showed up and one very conspicuous person who didn’t. Ayumi (her former Sugar bandmate who flew all the way from Japan) attended the 700 guest bash while Park Soojin (whose wedding Hwang Jungeum attended) make excuses not to go. Ah well, all’s fair in love because the bride sure is glowing.

It’s hard not pass this day by without mentioning KMHM seeing as it was a year ago that what has now grown to be one of the most iconic lines on TV was aired (at 10pm!)
“Remember, January 7th, 10pm, the time I fell for you”
Oh Shin Segi! When will I ever get over you? Another reason this merits discussion (besides KMHM being forever close to my heart) is that the lovely Hwang Jungeum is getting married!

Heaven know why but I”m more nervous than Jisung as to the outcome of tonight’s drama awards. Having been snubbed for the grand prize at the Baeksangs, I’m praying this’ll be the night he is properly honoured for his talents. I did download the complete ceremony but MBC’s being slow with updating the clips so some videos are missing 🙂 In the meantime I’ll post translations of all the speeches.
EDIT: JISUNG WON THE DAESANG PEOPLE!
The hosts for the night Shin Dongyup and actress Lee Sungkyung (who did an opening song and dance for the ceremony) did start off by telling winners to try and make their speeches as brief as possible due to this being a live broadcast and not wanting to run over time, which I thought was a pretty poor move to make that chances are that you’ll forget someone if you speed through things but there you go! Here’s a link to the wonderful ockoala’s website where she covers how meritorious this award is:
Ji Sung and Hu Ge Win Special Awards at the 10th Annual Asian TV Drama Conference
AND I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY, PEOPLE! He deserves EVERY BIT of the applause, praise and love he has received and I could not be happier that he’s being given physical proof of that. Not that Ji Sung needs the awards, but it’s always nice to have your worked recognized that way, and let’s face it, there’s no one this year who did as much emotional heavylifting and owned the scene with such sheer magnetism and gravitas as he did. KMHM would not have been what it was without him.
Those who follow my posts know that I still have a hard time letting go of that show (AND SHIN SEGI, I AM NOT OKAY) which was undoubtedly the best drama of the year for me. So hooray for Ji Sung! Let this be the first of many more plaudits to come!
Aww! How sweet is this! Ji Sung and Lee Boyoung have a history of sending each other food trucks, and supporting costars in their other works and now it’s Ji Sung’s turn to send his “brother and sister” one! He chose the menu carefully and arranged things such that it wouldn’t interfere with the filming.
The banner above which has my precious Segi and Dohyun, says “It’s time to eat samgyetang! I’m buying!”
Samgyetang is ginseng chicken soup so he’s looking out for their health. Continue reading “Ji Sung sends over a food truck to his ‘She Was Pretty’ dongsaengs!”
This came out a few months ago while I was basking in my newly found freedom after a rather annoying year of university. What with another drama unexpectedly stealing my heart (this makes 4 in the last year!) I scoured the web for all things Seo Inguk, Jang Nara (just finished marathoning Fated to Love You), Park Bogum – and once I was done there – Jisung.
I revisited this video and couldn’t help but marvel once more at how much the interview felt like a calmer Shin Segi and Dohyun simply chatting amongst themselves, which was definitely what Elle was going for. Smart of them. Jisung’s given two words per question and asked to pick the one he identifies/likes the most for each. Both the left and right sides of him answer at different times and often interrupt/disagree with the other’s choice. Those comments/actions will be bolded in my translation below. Simple though the style of questioning may be, the words used as surprisingly complex ranging from “result vs process?” to the more socially relevant “safety vs liberty” and his answers don’t disappointed, delivered in his mild-mannered yet playful air that serves to remind me all over again as to why I’m a fan.
